The Ernie Wood Building is our state-of-the-art facility at Acacia Ridge in Brisbane’s premier industrial precinct. It provides pre-packing, fruit conditioning, storage and trans-shipping services for a range of product lines and clients, and the company’s administration functions are also headquartered here. The building is named in honour of J E Tipper’s former General Manager Ernie Wood who began his career at the company in 1950 at the age of 13, retiring in 1996.
Established in 1999 and expanded in 2011, this purpose-built facility is among the most technologically advanced in Queensland. Operating under the Jet Direct banner, it boasts fully temperature controlled facilities, including receivals, storage and despatch to ensure strict maintenance of the cold chain.
Efficient ripening and storage are crucial for tropical fruit, particularly for papaya, papaws and bananas. Jet Direct’s ripening facility incorporates stacked pallet, high volume cool room storage with high-tech refrigeration and ethylene injection systems. The HumidiFresh cool room system maintains high humidity with low condensation and moisture pooling which is vital for retaining fruit quality and weight. Remote computer control ensures optimal ripening and storage conditions are always maintained. Controlling the speed of ripening allows Jet Direct to meet fluctuations in demand and manage seasonal factors and ensure fruit reached peak condition at the best time to meet market demands.
